just a quick one here before i continue with my last min cramming of massive loads of bacteria, virology and immunology notes into my brain...
just like to thank everyone for all the birthday wishes...my fella singaporean and aussie meddies, hostel mates, mum, dad, bros, even pple from singapore whom i've not really kept in contact with(oops!!) and the nice chocolates and the nice origami paper wishes...

Ah! And not forgetting my wonderful anatomy tutors who gave us such a smooth sailing practical paper that seemingly was a perfect replica of the previous year's paper lest some changes here and there. My heartfelt thanks to the one and only GABRIEL MOUNHIR!!!ah i've been speculating that in actual fact, he must have been too busy catching up with WORLD CUP to bother...and MARIO too...muahahah(evil laughter...)see! tats the advantage u get when u have male tutors with WORLD CUP...they simply click u see....

anyway, enuff of this crapping. back to MMI...last paper last paper!

hmm...the feeling's so surreal but yes...its only 1 more day before the 3 continuous days of exams hit. and not forgetting, turning another year older in 14 hrs time...its interesting that in these 5 days of break in between the papers, not only have i lost track of my my days but i've also managed to catch up on more revision. good and bad. so much has happened in the last sem. and this sem seems especially fast to me. first, it was the reality of arriving in adelaide that dawned upon me, next was the hectic schedule of pbl, resource, clinicals and electives. time really flies by in a flash if u don't keep check of it. trust me. it SURE DOES... anyway, soon came the mid sem break and ta da, exams were here. woah woah. need a breather man....not only this sem, but growing one year older, juz reflecting on the events within the period of 21-22 yrs of existence on earth...its a nice feeling. to juz take a break, sit down, stone and look up at the ceiling (since we're at the "ceiling", there're several guys upstairs fixing up some poster on the roof i think....and they're making a hell lot of noise... arghhh!!!), but ya u get the picture. i've come a long way, juz reminiscing my days in ri, rj, army, 39SCE...i've made many good frens, some of whom r gonna be the next big thing in the army, government and other organisations. but there are also those whom i've gone through shit training together. and come out alive. coming to adelaide was one of the biggest decisions and i guess another of the crossroads in life, but yeah i'm glad i took that step out and i've not regretted eversince. i've made wonderful frens and formed new relationships here whom i 'm gonna hang out with for the next 5 years. and yes...woo hoo!! guys, we're one quarter through the journey.

ahh...growing older...it s just another phase of life isn't it.....

Wah!! My stomach's simply bursting (this is not really medically true but heck..) and I'm so full from the Pullman's buffet just a few hours ago. But it truly was a good gathering for the Singaporean med students given hmm..we haven't had full attendance for any of the past birthdays, just before the looming mid yr exams when we face our first test of the now modified triple jump (Reasoning, Learning and Explanation Exam)and the other usual stuff...Well, at the same time, at least we managed to celebrate a belated birthday for Lam. Yes Yes. Lam Happy Belated Birthday. You're only 23...not that old.. haiz... BUT makes me think of my turn turning 22 soon. but anyways, it was a great lunch overall. Here's a quick question to get some brain cells firing in the meantime:

Four prisoners were buried to their necks in a prison room. There was a high opaque wall in the middle of the room. 3 of them were positioned on one side of the wall, facing the wall in a single file. The other was positioned on the other side of the wall also facing the wall. 4 hats were placed on their heads, 2 white and 2 black...in a random order. They were blindfolded when this was done and the height of the hats is such that the last prisoner furthest from the wall on the right side can't see the colour of the hat of the first prisoner. I.E. they can only see the colour of the hat of the prisoner in front. Now, the catch here is that there is one prisoner who can be 100% sure of the colour of the hat on his head. If he can say it correctly, then all prisoners get to be set free. Now, can u tell me which prisoner is the one who can be 100% sure of the colour of the hat on his head???

Note: No communication between the prisoners, first sentence uttered is to say the colour of the hat, lighting in the room but not contributive to the result...

Its one of those days when u just have the urge to blog and release everything... U wake up feeling fine and look forward to what you could expect for the day and bang...there's this kind of itsy bitsy stuff that just stuffs ups your day...But anyway, as much as its that bad, i guess it will pass after some time... I am f***ing stress and i need a place to release and this is the place i'm going to resort to. Its juz 31 more days to the first paper and this is by far, the first time i'm so least prepared.... The first half of the year has simply zipped past in a flash and the cases this yr are pretty big to cover and there are also some f*** cases which shouldn't be there in the first place. to be honest, i haven't really enjoyed pbl this year as i have last yr... haiz i guess its just bad luck...i really think its the elective thats the pain in the ass cos there's so much lecture notes... i better get back to my notes and stop complaining.

Ok, this shall be a quick one...so much work piling up with exams nearing with each day. 29 April: Med Ball 2006. Pretty nice social event organised by the AMSS and it was great seeing everyone dress up for the event. The girls in their cocktail dresses and the guys in their suits. However, I doubt I will ever attend Med Ball until Yr 6... cos it simply isn't worth the money. 6 April 2006: Debby's 21st/Maybelline's 19th Bdae Party at Raffles House. I really liked the idea of having a party in the comfort of your own hostel, no one to check your id, u get any drinks u want..haha. The party was really nicely planned out by the housemates. Kudos to all at Raffles House! Hope you girls enjoyed yourself! Okie, tats about all for now. Just a photo collage above of some photos at med ball. More photos to come soon.

Back to school from a 2 week break and now its a public holiday again...Anzac Day as the aussies call it. Well, mood now: stone... caught up with this breast cancer case where we have to do guidelines for physical exam, history taking, breast pack information blah blah blah and now there's more PBL learning issues to handle about treatment for breast cancer...woohoo...gonna be a breast cancer guru liao...Anyway, just a side track, ladies..remember to get your routine mammogram if u're after 40... don't run the risk. back on course, yesterday was a totally turn off pbl session. sometimes i really wonder why the hell am i paying 50 aussie bucks for a 2 hr session of pbl and all my group does is talk cock sing song in class? we r way too off focus... the tutor doesn't really give a damm (pardon the vulgarity) at times too... haiz... there's this disAbility assignment due in three weeks time: totally mppd and waste of time...juz want to get it over and done with. juz got a haircut yesterday. bad experience coupled with the bad pbl session=bad day... wah..ang mohs really can't cut asian hair for nuts!!! tell her cut short enough, but not too short to spike up but no no no...at the end of the haircut, hair's all gone lest for a flat top...haiz...never going back to that shop ever again...should have stuck to the toni & guy appointment and guai guai cut after med ball...

there's now this frenzy of events going on for the next few weeks which r confirm gonna burn a hole in my wallet...21st bdaes, med ball, meetings blah blah. got to save save save and cook in instead of eating out. was reflecting again the other day, u knoe when u suddenly feel like nothing to do and u lie on your bed, look up to a plain cream coloured ceiling and random thoughts start flying around... tot of how lucky i am to be born into a financially stable family with good parents and be blessed with good education in good schools...no need to worry abt too many things for the past 21 years. bed of roses i would say. but wat if? wat if? there were some obstacles i had to go through...say we became financially in need and i would have to work and study..would things be different now?? would i still be studying medicine?? i'm really grateful for where i am today, having the opportunity to do medicine overseas...its not an opportunity that comes by easily and i got to learn to treasure it real hard...play hard but also study hard. i knoe that i'm not on a scholarship or anything, but its my parents' hard earned money over the years...so this is really important to me...

It seems like I always stop blogging for long periods of time and then have a post. Apparently, this causes me to lose my blog readers. Haha. Nvm. Two weeks of holidays have simply zoomed past just like that...School's starting on Monday but the interesting thing is I only have PBL on monday and tuesday's anzac day... so this means one more day of break!! There's nothing much on next week in sch cept for some lectures and PBL. Still got work to do, so this shall be a short post...

Woo Hoo! Mid Sem hols are finally here after 6 weeks of sch which seems to have passed by so quickly... Anyway, i'm gonna take a short break b4 getting things going again. So much has happened since the last post and i really feel i ought to update!!

First Big Thing: Baby Boy Cooper James Blanch
My pregnant woman, Julie has finally given birth to a cute and healthy little boy Cooper. He was delivered on the 18 March at 1.26 pm (similar digits to my house no...coincidence??) at Modbury Hospital. So happy for Julie and Rowan!But i feel so bad not having gone to visit them since the baby was born...sent them a card though but i've decided that i'm gonna visit them some time during this hols. Now its down to the gruelling task of writing out that report of the whole pregnancy... signz.

Second Big Thing: Qiang: Best Recruit Whiskey Coy
Being here in adelaide and not having gone for the POP, it really is a pleasure to know that your bro was the coy best during his BMT stint. hmm, looking back at my BMT days, haiz... anyway, got some photos of the day of his POP and some prominent figures were there too. anyway, now that he's been in OCS for 3 weeks already, i guess he's settled down quite well. we've never had to worry abt him cos since young, he's always been that independent and seeing him en route to being an officer to lead, excel and overcome certainly makes me feel proud.

These were the major things that happened in adelaide and singapore. In adelaide, there's much to revise during the hols and other stuff to do as well. Uncle's still in a state of imbalance, waiting for his job application...just have to wait and see. but if he gets it, then i'm moving out of my room. hols r like a time for reflection , to look back at the way i've managed my work, myself in the past few months. I knoe i've been doing constant work, but there's just that feeling that its not enough. haiz...i really don't knoe man..guess i'll just have to take a step at a time. the only worrying thing now is the newly named Reasoning Learning Explaination part of the exams that I'm concerned. they've gone through it pretty much in the past few weeks, hoping that we're assured of the technique of attacking it. **fingers crossed for now**.
not going anywhere this hols though, guess i'll just stay in adelaide and keep myself busy. two weeks isn't that long afterall... hope these two weeks are productive.

Back from a hiatus

Hi all!! I'm finally back to blogging. Gosh, it seems like i've been updating like once a month. haha. so many things have happened since i got back to adelaide and looking back, its been 4 weeks since i've been back. woah..time sure flies and the next thing u knoe it, the mid term break's here. had plenty of welcome bbqs in the first week of orientation, then it was back to pbl classes, resource sessions and mppd tuts. this year, we seem to have to prepare for practically everything including clinical skills in which we have to come up with guidelines to...well, at least everything's kind of settled down and back into the momentum of things. Uncle's here for a week and its great to have someone from home here. the feeling's just different. looking back, the process of coming back to adelaide this year hasn't seem to be that painful compared to last year...i guess having someone close by your side this time helps to ease the transition and i'm grateful for that. i'm still staying in my room with no windows in the west terrace hostel but i'm pretty content with the accomodation at the moment. sch starts almost at 8 every day and with the mmmi lectures adding their share, everyday ends at around 4 to 6 pm... i guess i'll just have to cope with it. coming back this year, its not just sch work to juggle with now...there's extra commitment to SMSUA and dear which encompasses a pretty large spectrum of stuff. But i'm doing my best to strike a balance with all these... at least now there's someone to seek emotional solace with... :) i'm pretty excited at the moment cos guess wat! my pregnant lady whom i've been following for consultations and ultrasounds is due this week possibly 21 March. Man am i excited! imagine the adrenaline rush when she calls to say that she's going into labour....all the things to do and think...wow! they've been deciding between three names for the baby boy: Riley, Austin and Cooper and they're keeping mum abt the choice made at least for now... I think Austin's a nice name though it reminds me of the WWE wrestler... haha

Back In Adelaide

Hi all!!! I know i haven't been updating the blog for ages now. Anyway, just want to let everyone I'm safely back in Adelaide for the second year of med sch. Starting school next monday and there's stuff to start preparing for already... O week's been pretty hectic and fun at the same time. Attended preliminary lectures on electives and med sch curriculum, went for welcome bbqs... Looking back at the past three months in Singapore, i must say it was pretty well spent. Just a quick recap. Started off working in HDB as admin coder thanks to my aunt's help, then moved on to relief teaching in my alma mater: St Andrew's Junior School and Secondary School(Not the Sec Sch). During my time with the school, I found teaching to be pretty enriching but i doubt i would take up teaching as my career...Its gonna take away my voice man.....Took some photos in school and HDB so gonna post them up later. During the three months, I indeed spent quality time with my family although most of the time, we were all busy working, studying and serving the nation in tekong. but i must say i spent quality time with my mum more. So thats good. I guess the family's reached a stage of life where everyone's reaching out for their dreams and jet setting all over the place and this is most probably gonna go on for the next 4 years until we graduate. Well, thats life for u. Anyway, I'm glad to be back in Adelaide at the same time. It means i've got to be independent again...do things myself, plan my timetable well, manage my time well and most importantly, cook for myself. I'm staying on in the hostel in West Terrace this year cos i don't knoe where to move out to for now... Luckily she didn't raise the rent for my room or else i'm gonna flip... Ok for now, enjoy the photos of my life for the past three months. ;)

More About Teaching

I have come to realise that I kind of like teaching. Moving on from teaching at the secondary school, teaching at the junior school was a whole new sort of experience. So far, I seem to have taught all the subjects possible from Chinese to English to Maths to Science....I guess the kids must be pretty confused as to why I'm taking them for different subjects every other day... Anyway, I've become in charge of class 4-4 till next week for now cos their teacher had appendicitis over the holidays... so..as u can guess, I'm kept busy with teaching for the moment... I guess I'm just starting to understand the boys in the class. The way they behave, the way to handle them, the way to teach them...seriously, there's plenty one can learn from teaching. Sometimes, when i look at the boys in class and just stand next to them, it sure makes me feel old man...haha. Well, its another day of class to look forward to tomorrow. the boys have spelling, an english and maths test tomorrow. tats quite a lot in one day...but i hope they're prepared for it...

It sure was a good break from the mundane routine of admin work this week. Instead, I was headed to my alumni school for some relief teaching. It sure was a good experience teaching the sec2 boys. Thanks a lot for the experience guys! This goes out to the boys from 2A, 2D, 2E, 2N2 and 2N3. Although the process required me to raise my voice and punish them at times, but teaching these boys made me value my past teachers even more. I paid a visit to the junior school one afternoon after classes to look up a few of my chinese teachers. It was really great to see them and the fact that they still remembered you made the meeting even sweeter. Anyway, just a quick summary of the classes i took.

Class 2A: This class must have been the best class i took. 8 prefects in the class...can u believe that? The boys did their work seriously, picked things up fast and best of all, they respect their teacher.

Class 2D: Hmm...not a very clear idea of the class...didn't give me much problems i think...

Class 2E: A really noisy class. Man, i actually sent 4 of them out of the class.... Those boys were really too noisy man....But i like their vibrance... haha

Class 2N2: I didn't really like this class... don't knoe why...

Class 2N3: A few individuals in the class who left an impression on me. Little Joash who didn't dare to speak up though he didn't understand what i was saying at all.... But glad i managed to sort things out for him at the end of the day. The 3 indians who asked a lot of questions but the problem was just that they were slower in absorbing information.... Had something of insulting each other "sloth" going on... Just got pretty amused by that. Haha.

Anyway, teaching was a good experience and I'm looking forward to going back again.

Ramblings from Work

I happen to work in Central Singapore on one of the higher levels of the building. Yet , the whole experience of working here has somewhat openend me to the harsh realities of the working world. In fact, I have in the course of my work come to despise a group of people, the despise which seems to grow with each passing day. Why is that so? Simply, these people come to work in a mask, and go through their routine work with the mask firmly on...Anyway, examples are always the better choice to illustrate certain points, so here goes..

Scenario A: It is mid afternoon in the office and the usual group of people have come to congregate in one of the cubicles nearby... The reason being given for this large scale congregation? The usual answer given..."Oh! We need to discuss some things for the upcoming project..." Ah, this always seems to tide them through... Anyway, on closer observation of the contents of the so called "project discussion", we come to overhear words like "holiday trips", "the latest gossip" and etc etc... Now, not that I am the enthusiastic eavesdropper, mind you...Their talk reaches such high volumes that their voices are amplified throughout the entire office for all to hear...Furthermore, one can hear the sharp and cynical grins and laughters being emitted from the cubicle from time to time...and not forgetting the sound of munching chips and snacks from the cubicle... I have ever since been thinking: Why the f*** are these people getting paid to chit chat?? These are people who bum their asses off, yet there are also others who work their asses off for the same pathetic amount of salary....WTF!!

Scenario B: He struts around the office with an exceptionally irritating presence, with a high degree butt, term given to him due to the architecture of his body. His head is way too big for his main frame and yes...not forgetting the ass....Anyway, he's been rumoured to be pretty capable...(my ass...) thus he's supposed to be supervising around...but wtf!!! all day long, all i see is him strutting around doing nothing....

The above mentioned are simply the negative experiences I have had from working in this organisation...yet there have also been wonderful positive experiences I have gained in the process. Yet... I doubt I would ever want to go back to that place to work again once my term is up.

Time sure flies...Its been three weeks since I got back home and so many things have happened in the span of time. Found a steady part time job in HDB, spent time with family, celebrated grandma's and great grandma's birthdays and made new frens. I've come to realise that when u actually go out to work, there's so much office politics and difference with studying...so i better treasure my uni life while i still can...but..on the other hand, you relish the moment when you get your pay after all the work u've done. well, there's around 2.5 more months to go so better make the best out of it. :)

Yes... I know it has been like eons since i last blogged. so many things to settle and so little time...time spent on msn has also been dramatically reduced. exams just officially ended for me last friday, so that means more time to blog and bitch about other stuff. well, just a quick round up to fill in my "devoted" readers (seriously thank anyone who's been visiting the blog for any updates...) on whats been going on for the past one and a half month of dormancy. hmm, after rural week, term 2 seemed to zoom past really quickly. nothing interesting seemed to happen though....cept that got voted in as vice pres of smsua-in case u're wondering wat it means, its singapore medical society university of adelaide. haha so if anyone wants to find out more about the med program in adelaide, just drop me a note k? not too soon later, exams were here. interestingly, meu seemed to be a bit strict this yr and decided to actually ban people like 3 days before the exam. i'm like thinking wat the hell...there goes the effort put into studying for those people. it actually amounted to 12 in all. tats massive man!! ok, meu decided to add some spice to the exams this year and made the practical paper "slightly harder"...i seem to be bitching about meu now but who cares... i pay a freaking 31 500 bucks a year. i get to bitch all i want...hope ray peterson or carole gannon don't chance upon this though... anyway its time to slack and party and shop all i can before heading back to singapore next saturday...

Rural Week: Port Augusta

Woah! Just came back today from a week at Port Augusta. It sure has been a great experience over all. I'm now more aware of the aspect of rural medicine and its workings. Well just a quick look at what has been going on...

Day 1(Monday 19 Sept)
Arrived at Port Augusta and had a quick orientation of the Hospital and a bus tour of town facilites. Checked in at accomodation: Standpipe Motel. Had a sumptuous dinner with choice of beef schnitzel or indian curry or fish fillet.

Day 2(Tuesday 20 Sept) Visited Nerrilda Nursing Home and Ramsey Village. Had an afternoon of suturing, cannulation, venipuncture and intubation at the old hospital. Continued by drug and alcohol talk and a geriatrics talk. Followed by dinner bbq and had a chat with guest speakers at Standpipe. Really good talk with Fiona who introduced us to the world of Aborigines.

Day 3(Wednesday 21 Sept)
Had an entire day of Cultural Awareness Day. Spent a whole day at the Port Augusta Yacht Club. Ended off with a indian dinner again!! Life sure is good eh..

Day 4(Thursday 22 Sept) Split into multi disciplinary teams: Attached with Johnny, physiotherapist under Acute and Rehab at Port Augusta Hospital. Spent the morning with him. Visited Flying Doctor Service Base and IMVS for the afternoon. Had a farewell dinner with rural doctors, 4th and 5th year medical students. Interacted with them and found out a lot more about rural medicine. Enjoyed this thoroughly.

Day 5(Friday 23 Sept) Packed up and back to Adelaide!

Basically, looking back at the week, it has passed really quickly but it was really enriching. Got to know a lot more about the Aboriginal people culture. Changed my perspective of rural medicine totally!! Well, another week of holidays to go before school starts again!!

its been one week of non stop action and work in school that i've got barely enough time to sit down with some peace and quiet to reflect on whats been going on in my life. anyway, caught up on sleep over the past few days. that sure helped a lot. the politics and aboriginal essays seem to be driving everyone up the wall nowadays... it seems to me that this term has passed really fast and the mid term holiday is like one week away!! oh my oh my....

i was just having dinner downstairs in the kitchen when mike had his 21st celebrated by some of his frens. happy birthday mike! and welcome to the 21 gang. :) anyway, it just daunted on me that tomorrow's yuqiang's bdae! happy birthday qiang!! i know its pretty rough to have your birthday falling during the prelims' period but hang on k? i'm sure u'll do just fine...

just got back from badminton at hackney. badminton nowadays seems to be less and less fufiling. maybe its an indication that i should go pursue soccer and basketball instead. "random thoughts flowing....." i need to work up a sweat! went to the royal adelaide show on friday night. was a really good experience overall. basically its sort of like a funfair with the usual stuff around like games shops with those enticing large soft toys to attract pple like me to go play them when the odds of winning are simply low... the rides and showcases of dogs, cars, flowers and showbags with fireworks that don't really match up to the ones u see during NDP. hahah! just overspent slightly in the end cos everything there was so expensive... oops! but seriously i'm not joking... one game costs around 10 bucks and a ride is like 6 bucks. however, the show's something that u won't really get to see in singapore happening. so i guess its pretty much worth the experience. everyone was happy in the end i guess... eugene got his kermit frog in the end, i won a kermit frog, gau with her cool facepaint and white tiger(though it looked like a zebra initially...) , tiffany with her orange dragon(i think the dragon was nice.) and youwen with his big purple dice.

well, another week of school to rural week at Port Augusta... can't wait...

i guess i've not been blogging for nearly 1+ months now. well, basically there hasn't been much happenings around though. currently occcupied with a mppd aboriginal health essay and politics tutorial essay though. i must say that looking for journal articles aren't fun at all.... just had the rural week video conference session yesterday and i sure am looking forward to that one week of "fun". fyi, i will be headed to Port Augusta where it is supposed to have a GP who plays the guitar during dinner and nice sights to see! we have two resource sessions this week--not everyone's happy with this kind of arrangement though.... well i guess its just MEU...

i'm now happily seated in Huxley typing this entry. nice place, air conditioned, nice computers, working printer, not too many people come here--basically its good! what more could i ask for. But i guess after this entry goes up, more people will be visiting Huxley....

Its been four days since i last touched down in adelaide. Four days of boredom and suffering from homesickness syndrome. Well, hopefully all this will be a thing of the past once school starts and the workload blows me away. I've been thinking these past few days...U never seem to know to treasure a person until you become separated. I don't think I've actually spent sufficient time with my family(mom, dad and brothers). Everybody's immersed in his/her different commitments and the only time we really get together now is when I get back. Its just so different from when my brothers and I were young and innocent. Back then, we spent a lot of time together at the beaches, dinners, to grandpa's house every sunday without fail. It seems like we're entering a new phase of our lives altogether. Very soon, the time we spend together would eventually diminish each passing day. As we all grow and mature, we have our own dreams and aspirations to pursue. Its not wrong to have these dreams. They push us to strive harder in life. I'll just have to learn to cope with these changes and make the best out of it. More time with my mum, dad and brothers the next time I get back to Singapore. That I must....I promise.

Time seems to pass really quickly when you don't keep track of it. Not long ago(just 24 hours), I was happily spending quality time in Singapore. And now, I'm brought back to reality here in Adelaide preparing for a new semester to start. Many thoughts are running through my mind at this very moment... many questions i can't seem to answer...I just want to close my eyes and go to sleep. But I know that running away isn't the perfect solution. I guess I just have to accept things at the moment and make the best out of it. Lets hope tomorrow will be a better day.

Woah...Singapore is really hot+humid+fun! Been back for 4 days now. Singapore looks pretty much the same though with slight changes here and there. Well in retrospect of wats been going all the past 4 days--> DAY 1 SAT: Had a fufiling breakfast consisting of nasi lemak(much cheaper than that in Melbourne....arghh.)+fried bee hoon+tau huay jiu. Hmm, still recovering from the impact of the humidity and heat for the rest of the afternoon. Went to East Coast Park in the evening to roller blade--fantastic feeling to be blading again. Sumptuous dinner of fish head steamboat...sweating non stop though. DAY 2 SUN: good breakfast again--went to visit grandparents in the afternoon--glad to see that they're in the pink of health. had homecooked food for dinner---u only seem to appreciate homecooked food after going overseas... DAY 3 MON woke up late. took a slow stroll around the neighbourhood after the downpour. went out to bind some notes-attn!!did u knoe in singapore binding=$3 but in adelaide binding=$6!!!daylight robbery!! anyway, printing aunty(tats wat i always call her) actually recognised me!! feeling was great and chatted a bit with her about studying in australia... she was so shocked at the rates in adelaide though... late afternoon--met up with those who came back to singapore to buy books at yunnan and dinner at harbourfront. unfortunately, the books are out of stock!!help help!! dinner was like 20 course meal i think....had steamed fish, crabs, chicken and so much more. reasonable price too. somehow we ended up at Sheares Hall after dinner. ok my impression of hall was = army bunks or somewat similar style. but guess i was wrong. totally changed my impression after the visit. its totally like a hdb flat!! but i guess i'm not suited for hall life though... DAY 4 TUES nothing much done today simply drove to Parkway Parade to take a look. had lunch at hawker centre for lunch and bought some formal clothes. then went to bishan to have my favourite po piah but sadly, it wasn't open. guess i'll have to come another day then.... blogging now and waiting for another round of homecooked dinner. yeah!!! looking forward to meeting more frens over the next few days. for now...

Went out with gau, jamie and carrot yesterday and had great fun making cookies and curry. Thanks to jamie for making cookies shaped "fang" for me, gau for the curry and carrot for chopping the chocolates for the cookies!! making cookies is really quite fun. had to whip the cream using a manual whipper.haha so funny! the curry was really unique: had tomatoes, cheese and yoghurt in it only. but it tasted really good and spicy with pita bread. had a really sumptuous dinner followed by dvd movies from blockbuster. jamie makes really nice cookies. they smell and almost taste like famous amos cookies. sweet. "Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle" was really good too. Following, we watched "Memento". Wah, that really turned my brain upside down trying to figure out the plot....especially when u watch it early in the morning. one whole day passed really quickly just like that. received many bdae wishes and cards from everybody. had a great 21st!!! looking forward to going back to Singapore now....can't wait...

Day Out at Victor Harbour

oK guys and girls, i am now wide and awake. yesterday (Sat) started like any other outings we had: getting the cars, waiting for the girls, driving off to McLaren Vale to sample and purchase some wine after which we were off to Victor Harbour for some whales and penguins watching. I shall skip the former and fast forward to what happened at Victor Harbour---particularly Granite Island... Here goes...As the sun was setting(the scenery was really nice), we decided to make our way down from the top and when we were at the bridge, i suddenly found my beloved Minolta DimageX31 MISSING!!!(after the short run down the bridge with Carrot) anyway, i was like totally freaked out man!! how could the camera have dropped out just like that...(f*^&*^&%^$%#)pardon the profanities. anyway, my kind hostel mate Moses and Keith offered to join me in this covet night search for my dimage. all in all(If i didn't count wrongly...), I think we walked to the visitor centre thrice, walked up and down the bridge thrice and walked up and down the trail of Granite Island twice. sweet. now i knoe the layout of the island at my fingertips. + our legs had a good workout from all that working. and the interesting thing is nokia and samsung handphones have really good lighting. we actually found a nokia handphone on ur first time up the trail using the handphone lights. (haha, i'm not the only careless one around.) then the freaking security guard had to bring people around to check out the penguins when it was all pitch dark(goodness, pls don't disturb the poor penguins. but i still managed to catch a glimpse of a few btw.haha!) ok, so the guy had the trump card-power torchlight, so we had no choice and decided to search around the bridge but to no avail...after all the waiting, finally he was done and up we went again on the trail searching north, south, east and west of the alleged drop zone. Still couldn't find the cam, so decided that was it man... left my particulars and description of the digital camera in case some kind soul found and returned the camera. Now comes the interesting part....

I was walking along the bridge back to mainland to meet the rest. (Wah, felt really bad at that time cos i think they were just waiting for us to finish the search and had not eaten dinner yet....) so, walk and walk...suddenly "POOF" out of no where i saw the all familiar grey strap lying on the bridge. WAH! i calmly picked it up and there it was---Dimage X31---property of SOH YUFENG!!! Wat a stroke of luck...anyway, so everything turned out well in the end after the long intensive search---worked the legs quite a bit. Rest were at Crown Hotel so adjourned to meet them there...sat down and the girls came up with five hypotheses(think PBL ah?) to explain the loss of the camera. had large beer battered fish and chips---tasted alright since victor harbour is known for their fish and chips. I was sitting at my place happily snapping some pics and wo...the chocolate ice cream cake topped with strawberries+fizzling fireworks+candles+birthday song went bam bam bam. really loss for words for a while.
now i finally realised that they were celebrating my 21ST bdae!!!gosh! proceeded with gift presentation---fcuk collared black polo shirt...hmm tat explains why the girls asked me to go shopping with them. really like the shirt-thanks everybody!! :) then....had to skull some drink---sorry but i can't remember the name. it was a mix of pineapple and alcohol i think. then came another one. k did the first in 1 min but took my time for the second...well, as long everybody's happy!!! the aussies in the restaurant came along to join in the fun-chatted about singapore, night safari, breakfast at the zoo, sentosa, orchard. haha i'm gonna be back in 1 week's time!!! can't wait. received lots of bdae wishes and hugs today!!!wat a 21st. i think i was a bit high after the two drinks...they started asking me all sorts of questions...gau and debby...stop grilling me k? we'll let nature take its course. ;)
had a really fun day out today. loved the cake, the pressie, the trip everything! still don't knoe if the camera loss was part of the bdae plan but oh well... haha happy 21ST to my self!!!!!!

ENDING THE DRY SPELL

I'm finally back at blogging after what seems like eons since my last blog entry. Either i haven't been in the mood to blog or there just wasn't time to do so...exams are going to be over pretty soon and its back to home sweet home. haha. can't wait for the day to come-1 july.recently, i was having dinner with a few of my hostel mates and they asked me:"So why did u choose to study medicine?" Those of u doing medicine out there or have gone for any medicine interview before would most probably have a really wonderful planned out answer for that question...(well at least i did.) but after around 3 months in medical school, my perspectives of that question seem to have changed slightly. Well, at least now i feel like i'm studying for a higher purpose apart from just feeding the brain with medical jargons and knowledge. Somehow, i feel like i'm studying all for the well being of my future patients... ok ok this sounds really weird and mushy... but thats wat i'm feeling at the moment at least.
ok, back to the pertinent issue at the moment: going back to singapore!!! some of the aussie people are back already---the melbournies and soon the perthies... nvm i'll just have to endure that thought for 1 more week. seems like a lot of my frens around are flying off to all corners of earth-just to mention a few: keith to usa(which i just found out), jon( to stanford), zhixuan to uk, junhui to michigan....koaz..everybody's leaving singapore!!! then there won't be any more local talents left...well, its the government's loss anyway.
a lot of people have been celebrating 21st in singapore but i haven't really been able to be there to send my best wishes... so here's a consolidated "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!" to all my frens who have had birthdays esp those who just had their 21st.hope u had fun.
i'm starting to miss tennis sessions with the two bitches and ktv sessions but guess thats the sacrifice i had to make by deciding to come to adelaide.
its been around 3 months + since i arrived in adelaide, time really flies and i guess this is gonna be the same for the next 6 years of my medical school life!!!wow...wat a thought.
i apologise for any philosophical preachings which i have included in this blog entry cos i'm feeling philosophical at the moment...just looking forward to exams ending and flying back home next week.

Ok, I am writing this blog feeling flushed and weak all over.... all because I had to catch some viral infection during the course of the week. :( Woke up this morning to the worst feeling i have experienced since coming to adelaide... *&^%$##@ must be the weather change... didn't really want to go to school but no choice, today was the case wrap...But with more sleep and some medication, I'm sure everything's gonna be alright. Well, this week seemed to pass really quickly... let's see: had a blood pressure+mini cardiovascular exam test on thursday, Marlene Hall was eventually concluded to be suffering from mesenteric adenitis on Friday(tat's today) and caught the virus....However, received news that I managed to get onto the 1st july qantas flight back! YEAH!!! in this way, i won't have to worry about spending five boring extra days in adelaide... the timetable for next week's out and there's no resource session scheduled on any of the days. phew! at least i won't have to be pre occupied with resource over the weekend and can rest more. hoping to recover by the time the weekend's over. ok, i'm not thinking right and my hands aren't coordinating very well....guess its an indication that i should hit the bed....

Hmm, the weekend seems to pass really quickly...in the blink of an eye, its over. went to harbour town but found it to be nothing impressive in the end after all the talk about it. just went to some really nice college in Hackney to play badminton a few hours ago. wow, the courts there are really well maintained and nicely waxed. plus there's so many courts to play on and unlimited shuttle cocks. troubled with the air tickets recently... but guess just have myself to blame for not doing the booking earlier. haiz. :( anyway, whats done cannot be undone so i'll just have to hope for the best. hopefully i can get the 1 july flight back.... *keeping my fingers crossed*.... tomorrow's adelaide cup holiday so may the best "horse" win!

After a busy schedule for the past two weeks or so, i finally have the time to sit down comfortably in the chair(comp lab chair btw...) to get my fingers typing on this keyboard. Anyway, now to update everybody on whats been going on in my life....

First up, had a really fun trip to Melbourne from 11/4 to 18/4. wow, come to think of it, it sure has been a long time since i last blogged... hmm. Okay, just a few highlights from the trip: accomodation which came in the form of a house that had a cosy environment, eating Red Rooster: 2 for $11 baguettes value meals, walking around the city and seeing so many asians...., meeting up with the melbourne med studs: jiawei, houston, amy and kah yong. anyway, sure went to many different places from a high class tim sum ala carte lunch to having hongkie style noodles and egg chiffon to the really dodgy St Kildea Beach( tat's wat i think) to queen victoria market where debby became absolutely fascinated witht the idea of the "dildos" which were in actual fact just Abo musical instruments to the stupid 1 metre long pizza place which took us on a tour around the city before finding it....Basically, there were so many things that happened....but i shall keep my melbourne trip description short. to have a look at the pics i took, check out my other blog specially dedicated to photos: yufeng1984.blogspot.com

ok, basically coming back from the melbourne trip, i was like so "stoned" and "shagged" that i just slept the rest of the day through... had to handwash clothes and stuff.... ok, i spent the rest of the mid term break doing constructive stuff and pretty soon, it was back to school. (yes! finally...)

day 1 in med sch: started on a new PBL case which would send waves of workload in the near future....*(but at that time, it looked like it would be any other past case...)* well, we were presented with Mrs Mary Kalnikos who turned out to be suffering from iron deficiency anemia**that was my conclusion... cos no wrap up was done :( ** anyway, the main bulk of work came from the reflective journal we had to do for the case... spent like hours and hours in front of my "movie screen monitor" Acer labtop going through the drafts and revising them over and over again. anyway, finally got the copy for submission out on 11/5 which was the due date for the journal. but after the whole affair, i sort of came to realise that*WOW! the pbl process is actually kind of cool after all... i get to do a lot of critical thinking and stuff like that..*

oh, and there was this first step to triple jump formative assessment on the monday of the week for submission of the journal combined with the pure anatomy resource session which cumulated to give me more work... wow, come to think of it, the week passed really fast. but got quite a lot of work done... so a "pat" on the back for myself! haha.

bbq was organised on the sunday 8/5 for the bdae girls, debby and lee ping...supposed to be a surprise for them and kind of pulled through in the end. was the "advance party" to go "book" the pits for the bbq and chopped garlic with moses the day before and made some nice chilli with the garlic... haha. :) anyway, turned out to be really fun. highlight of the day was when keith, gau and lee ping got pretty high on the five litres of dodgy wine and started doing all kinds of weird stuff which i shall not mention.(they still protest they were sober... but thats just my tot guys!)

ok, the week is finally coming to an end, and they r coming over to our place to finish up the remaining sausages and chicken wings which still seem like loads and loads.... hopefully, they will be devoured by the hungry individuals and we'll have a happy conclusion.....cept the fact tat if they have wine, the above mentioned( excluding keith cos he's engaging himself in some oral activity at night....disclaimer: pls think straight.....) would most prob get all high and i'll leave them in the *freezing pseudo north pole living room*. hopefully, that would get their sympathetic nerves working....

ok, gau is busy hurrying me to go to "mei wei" for some lunch... while debbie is happily indulging herself in the world of "sheares" and MSN and keith is busy with his military conquests in the world of utopia...so hopefully, i've been rejuvenated and all ready for more blogs... so long folks.

Reflection of the First Term....

Well how time flies...its actually the end of the first term and 31 days since i left singapore for adelaide....wow so many things have actually happened within these 31 days..... hmm arriving in med sch to enrol, walking around with dad, attending lectures, clinical sessions, resources, pbl, having welcome bbqs, trip to barrosa...wat a roller coaster ride it has been for this term.well, the mid term break is pretty long so i'm gonna take a short trip to melbourne to chill out but still going to revise all that has been covered...won't want to end up like the way i was in jc.....真懒惰...!!! kuma's coming to adelaide so yeah!!! can meet up with him...meeting amy and peck in melbourne too....
well, can't think of wat to type now... will blog some other time when i feel like it...so yeah, cheers all!!

wah, woke up so early today just to attend the 8 am psychology lecture in Stirling.... turned out to be some lecture on depression disorders. anna chur-hansen just rambled on and on about depression disorders and how we were supposed to be aware of it when we were encountering any chronic illness in a patient.... then next we had a lecture by some hospice medical director... this turned out to be a pretty meaningful lecture... had an insight into palliative care, hopsice and its history... ok here's a quote from the lecture worth pondering over: Do you want to die with dignity or should I call your GP???

ok, so after we left the whispering wall, we continued on to Barrosa Valley for our wine tasting journey. First, we arrived at Jacob's Creek where we saw two really posh cars and suddenly everybody started posing for photos with the cars..... well the scenery was really good though. after which we went to several other wine tasting places like Peter Raymonds, Richmond Groves, Wolf Bass. we had a whole afternoon of wine tasting....wow! oh and we went on some winery tour too where we were introduced to the wine making process. then it soon came to sunset....
